The New Economy budget- Assets, insurance and a new lifestyle

Posted 09 May 2011 | By | Categories: Finance, FROM OUR CONTRIBUTORS

The New Economy is nothing like the old. In Australia, 25% of the population is officially self employed, and lifestyles and work are changing drastically. So are domestic budgets. Many people are contractors, working on multiple jobs, and busy like never before. That means the New Economy budgets have to take the domestic costs in their stride, everything from shopping to buildings insurance.

The modern lifestyle- Fluid, and very cost and time-sensitive

Times aren’t the only things that change. Getting out of the commuter lifestyle has changed the whole spectrum of budget and living priorities. A whole generation is now growing up that may never set foot in a conventional career as it was in the past. The creation of far more effective communications means that office space and bricks and mortar jobs are no longer the working machinery of business.

With this gigantic change in lifestyle options has come a new set of demands from consumers, and they’re all practical. Time is now valued very differently, and the old runaround paying bills and business costs is an anachronism. It’s also expensive and inefficient. Most people need a lot of cost in their lives running reliably on autopilot using automatic payments, and other fundamentals.

Meeting the needs of the New Economy

This is really just common sense, but it’s interesting to see how the service providers and financial institutions that cover a lot of domestic budget costs are dealing with it. The insurance industry, at least the truly modernized part of it, has gone paperless in a hurry. What was once a horror story of bureaucracy on a colossal scale has been streamlined into online policy management and help lines. The efficiency of this type of system is simply beyond the capacity of old style insurers.

This is a particularly good example of the sort of services the New Economy needs. Fast, straightforward, no jagged edges, and effective. Businesses, let alone self employed contractors, badly need these better options. So do consumers, particularly homeowners and home business operators. Anything from basic groceries to home insurance can be managed far more effectively online, saving time, petrol and in most cases frustration.

Domestic budgets and the New Economy- How to save time and money

Conventional economic wisdom has taken a battering as the New Economy has been taking shape. Business models are becoming obsolete overnight. It’s worth noting that the first people to get the message were retailers. This very tough market soon figured out what the New Economy could do for it, and they joined it as fast as they could get their online sales set up. That’s turned out to be an extremely good move for them and their customers.

Shedding overheads is best practice in any business, and for retailers, literally besieged with costs, it was actually the soft option. The new way of doing business has dovetailed very well with the New Economy. Everything can be done in seconds, and everyone can get on with business.

The New Economy is changing the world for the better. The next generation won’t have to tolerate a bureaucratic business environment, or inefficient cost management.
