PCCW Solutions, the IT and business process outsourcing flagship of PCCW Limited, celebrated its 10th anniversary of establishment in mainland China in December 2011. Going forward, PCCW Solutions will seize opportunities arising from the “National 12th Five-year Plan” to help customers transform their business and enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.

PCCW Solutions ranks 17th in the “Leader” category in the 2011 Global Outsourcing 100 by the International Association of Outsourcing Providers®（IAOP）, the highest ranking among all outsourcing companies in China. PCCW Solutions will continue to invest in its outsourced development centers in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Xian, and hire an additional 3,000 software engineers, with a view to raising the competitiveness of Chinese outsourcing services in the international markets. Mr. Fok predicts that China could overtake India as the top global delivery center for IT outsourcing services, enabling the company to capture new outsourcing opportunities.

PCCW Solutions will focus on the following areas in its future strategic development plan:

Building enterprise cloud platforms

PCCW Solutions launched a full spectrum of cloud computing services in 2010 spanning across all five layers of the cloud stack – infrastructure, platform, application, content, and process. This cloud computing delivery model has earned PCCW Solutions “The Best Cloud Innovation Award 2011” by IT Xinwen and IT Times.

In addition, PCCW Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petro-CyberWorks Information Technology Company Limited (PCITC), a joint venture between PCCW and Sinopec, for helping large enterprises to build private cloud platforms and providing cost-effective cloud computing-related solutions and services to them.

Deploying unique cross-border data center solutions

China is experiencing rapid economic growth and many foreign enterprises and multinational corporations are setting up their regional support centers in Hong Kong and mainland China to capture business opportunities. PCCW Solutions is providing unique cross-border data center solutions to support customers’ data centers operation in Asia Pacific and Greater China regions.

In addition, many Japanese corporations look for data center outsourcing and disaster recovery sites outside Japan after the 3.11 earthquake. PCCW Solutions is in discussion with some potential customers for helping them to set up their backup sites in Hong Kong.

Facilitating smart cities development in the mainland

With its strong track record in facilitating the development of Hong Kong as a “smart city”, PCCW Solutions will replicate its proven solutions such as Internet of Things, identity management, intelligent transportation system, financial system management, and electronic health record solutions in mainland China.

Earlier this year, PCCW Solutions signed an MoU with the Development and Construction Office of Nanjing Qilin Technology Innovation Park to jointly develop state-of-the-art IT facilities to transform Nanjing into a smart city.

Capturing new technology trends

PCCW Solutions will continue to deploy fast-developing technologies, such as multimedia, social networking, location-based and mobility technologies, for enhancing the competitiveness of its partners and customers to extend their market reach. PCCW Solutions has signed an MoU with one of the largest telecommunications equipment providers in the mainland to provide IPTV solutions to customers worldwide.
